2. Detail Editor

When in the Detail Editor, use the menu OBJECT/ADD/PRIMITIVE and click on Sphere. Accept the default settings, a sphere will appear in the view windows at position 0, 0, 0. It will already be "picked" and colored orange. Now PICK_SELECT/PICK_SELECT. The object turns blue, You may now click on the button along the bottom that reads "Mov" or hit "m", the Sphere turns into an amber box. Click the mouse in the top view, drag to one side. The amber box will move aside. Press the Space bar and the sphere re-appears.

Once again, use the menu OBJECT/ADD/PRIMITIVE and click on Tube. Change only the height setting, click in the box, type 300, and hit enter/return. As above, the Tube needs to be moved away from it initial place. This time, click on the Front View, click on the button along the bottom that reads "Mov" or hit "m". Pull the amber bounding box down about half its height, and press Space.

You might also have used the OBJECT/TRANSFORMATION command to move the Tube. If You had, You would have needed to click on the Position button and typed -150 in the Z gadget. After hitting enter, and clicking Perform, the Tube would have moved to this position.

Now use the menu OBJECT/ADD/CLOSED_PATH. An oval Path will appear around the Tube. The Sphere will later follow this Path to move around the Tube.

Adding some color to the objects will make the final animation a little clearer. Move the mouse cursor in any view until it's over the axis of the Sphere, click there to activate the Sphere and then pull down the menu FUNCTION/ATTRIBUTES or press F7. The Attribute requestor will allow You to adjust color, roughness, textures and many other parameters. In this example, only the color will be changed. Click on the Color button, type 255, 0, 0 in the red, green and blue boxes (hit return after each). As You'll see in the color swatch, the Sphere is now red. Click OK to exit the requestor.

Repeat the above with the Tube but make the color blue.

The objects need to be saved. The Tube should still be selected. When You OBJECT/SAVE, the requestor will allow You to find the "first.imp" project. When You click on that line, You'll see the sub-directory "object", click on that. Type "tube" in the bottom string requestor and hit return to save the Tube there. You might have placed this anywhere, but it is easier to remember if objects are associated with their Projects. Upon return to the Detail editor, use OBJECT/DELETE to remove the Tube from the work space.

Now click on the Sphere and repeat the save and delete routine. Finish by saving and deleting the Path. Now it's time to pull down PROJECT/ACTION_EDITOR.
